Nikki Gulck

I grew up in southern California, eating egg salad sandwiches on the beach and standing in center field waiting for the ball to come my way.  I graduated from UCLA with a double major in Critical Gender Studies and Sociology and a minor in LGBTQ studies. After college, I spent time exploring the West Coast (and myself) by living in Portland, Oregon and Mendocino, California.  While up north, I spent my free time backpacking, building chicken coops, reading literature, and writing. Due to the strong gravitational forces of close family and beautiful weather, I returned south, where I earned my English credential from SDSU and connected with my dream school- High Tech High International.  I am thrilled to be teaching 9th grade humanities at HTHI!

Growing up a first generation college student from a working class background, I understand firsthand the opportunities that education can bring the individual and the family. In humanities class, I want to equip my students with the critical thinking and literacy skills they need to thrive in our 21st century society.

When I'm not teaching, I love hiking up the steepest mountain I can find, riding my bike to the farmer's market, dancing, singing, writing, and spending time with my lovely partner, Jenny.
